The Equipment Fund is used for the purchase of equipment that will benefit patients by improving efficiency, aiding diagnosis, treatment or monitoring or improving the comfort.
We have recently received some very generous donations into this fund from patients, from the sale of arts and craft work, plant sales and also in memory of loved ones. Thank you for these donations. Money received from the sale of second hand books is also added to this fund.
We have now managed to purchase a 24 hour Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitor and also a new ECG machine.
Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring is when the blood pressure is being measured as the patient moves around in normal daily life. It is normally carried over 24 hours. It uses a small digital blood pressure machine that is attached to a belt around your body and which is connected to a cuff around your upper arm. It is small enough for the patient to carry out normal daily life and even sleep with it on.
By measuring the blood pressure at regular intervals over 24 hours, clinicians are able see how the blood pressure changes throughout the day and night. This test might be requested for one of the following reasons:
To confirm a diagnosis of hypertension
To find out if high blood pressure readings in the clinic are much higher than they are away from the clinic (called the “white coat effect”).
To see how well medicines are working and make sure the blood pressure is controlled throughout the day.
They may want to see if the blood pressure stays high at night. If this is the case, they may need to change or adjust medication.
To date we have raised £1700.00 for the Severnbank Surgery Medical Equipment Fund.
